In 2019, the Corona virus spread and like a rapid fire, it quickly covered all countries.
From that day until now, several
subcategories of this virus have appeared. In early July 2022, it was
spread in the United States with a strain called BA.5 and BA.4, which is
one of the most contagious types of this virus so far. BA.4 accounts
for about 20% of all cases of this virus.
The original type of
Omicron has a relatively mild version of the virus and is less lethal
than delta variants. Of course, scientists are still investigating BA.5.
If we look at hospital statistics, we will find that this type of virus
has a lower hospitalization rate than other variants of the virus.
Keeping
track of the Omicron species can get confusing, but Yale Medicine and
the CDC (centers for disease control and prevention) track and update it
weekly.
When and where did BA.5 start?
According
to some experts, this type of virus was first detected in the United
States in late April 2022. Of course, epidemiologist David Dowdy says:
In
fact, this subtype has been seen for the first time in South Africa.
But this does not mean that this strain entered America from Africa.
Monitoring on this issue is limited and it is not possible to say
exactly where this virus came from.
Dawoodi
said that the first cases of this disease were found in the Northeast,
after waiting for some time, it began to spread in the southern states,
the Midwest, and the West.
In fact, this increase in cases has
been slow and it took about two months to reach the situation we are in
now. Today, about two-thirds of the cases of Covid-19 are BA.5.
What does BA.5 mean?
These
designations are determined by the World Health Organization and are a
simple classification system to avoid blaming the countries where new
strains of SARS , infectious diseases and COVID-19 were first identified.
The
World Health Organization named the original type B.1.1.529 actually
from the fifteenth letter omicron. In fact, the agency assigns numbers
to its sub-branches in different types.
BA.5 is still classified
as a omicron variant , but this type has new mutations that distinguish
it from other omicron subvariants such as BA.1 and BA.2.
The noteworthy point is that BA.5 constitutes nearly 80% of the new corona virus.
BA.5 symptoms for children and adults(covid symptoms)
Many
doctors say that many of the symptoms of BA.5 are actually similar to
the previous symptoms. These symptoms include congestion, headache,
cough and fever.
But these symptoms are more severe for children
and include digestive symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting
and diarrhea.
Another type of symptom has been observed in
children, which causes an upper airway infection and blocks the child's
airway and causes coughing.
How long is the recovery period for BA.5?
This disease does not mean that everyone experiences it, but those who get BA.5 feel sick for a few days to a few weeks.
Actually,
the recovery period of this disease is one to two weeks with acute
symptoms. Of course, some people struggle with this disease for a longer
period of time due to hospitalization.
Is it possible for a person who has been infected with BA.5 to get it again?
Because
there is very little information about this disease, many experts
believe that it is unlikely to happen in the first month after
infection.
Experts say that if you have a healthy immune system, you will probably be completely resistant to getting sick again.
Of
course, this type of protection may decrease over time, and if a person
is exposed to the virus, she will get the same type of disease again
two to four months after being infected.
In the next few months,
it is very unlikely that this new type of virus will continue to
circulate because the population will be immune to this strain.
It is possible that the virus will emerge as a new type or subtype of omicron to infect more people.
In
fact, this is a cat and mouse game between the virus and the immune
system. If another type is not found in a few months, more people will
definitely get BA.5
What measures are necessary if we are infected with BA.5?
If
your corona test is positive or if you see the symptoms of the disease
in yourself, the CDC recommends that you should stay at home for at
least 5 days and isolate yourself from other family members. If you live
with family members, wear a mask at home.
If you do not have a
fever for 24 hours and your symptoms improve after 5 days, you can leave
the quarantine, but you must continue all precautions for the next 5
days. Wearing a mask, use of disinfectant inside and outside the house, avoiding travel and...
How are BA.4 and BA.5 different from other types of covid?
BA.4
and BA.5 these two strains have common mutations with other covid
strains such as BA.1 and BA.2. But according to research conducted by
the National Institute of Public Health in South Africa, these two
viruses have a series of additional mutations in the spike protein.
BA.5
escapes herd immunity more easily than BA.4, therefore it seems that
this type is more transmissible and causes more severe diseases.
