History and the current covid-19 pandemic have taught us that hygiene associated with the use of disinfectants is inevitable.
It remains to be seen whether these disinfectants products are harmful to children's skin in the long term, as they have a more sensitive skin than adults.
What is contained in cosmetic hand gel and disinfectant hand gel?
Cosmetic
hand gel consists of alcohol that cleans and degreases your hands. It
has a cleansing effect just as soap detergent and water. On the other
hand, there is the disinfecting hand gel that, in addition to a cleaning
effect, also kills possible pathogens on your hands.
The amount
of alcohol in disinfectants is a lot higher than in cosmetic hand gel.
Ethanol is often used as the alcohol type in cosmetic and hand sanitizers. In addition, isopropanol or a combination of these substances is also used in the production of disinfecting hand gel.
Disinfecting hand gels
can also contain other substances such as sodium benzoate,
chlorhexidine gluconate, hydrogen peroxide and other substances that
have a caring effect and soften your skin. Cosmetic hand gels often also contain fragrances that make your hands smell nice.
Are disinfectants harmful for children and the elderly to use because of their sensitive skin?
With normal use, both cosmetic hand gels and hand disinfectant gels are generally safe to use.
However,
children and the elderly should be careful because of their sensitive
and sometimes dry skin. The high alcohol percentage that disinfectants
contain can affect and dry out the protective skin barrier and affects
the skin condition of the human cells.
The result is that the skin cracks and becomes more susceptible to bacteria and viruses or you can have an allergic reaction.
In
addition, ethanol is bad in the long term (also for adults with normal
skin) due to its extremely drying effect and the high percentages
present in the disinfectant (often 70% alcohol or more).
Disinfectants containing isopropanol, on the other hand, are often more suitable, because is a milder type of alcohol.
Is Logic Sept disinfectant harmful for children to use?
Logic Sept disinfectant consists of 30% alcohol using isopropanol and no ethanol as an active ingredient.
A
milder type of alcohol is therefore used and also a reduced alcohol
percentage in the disinfectant. Logic Sept disinfectant is a
children-safe disinfectant.
The question you can ask yourself is
whether Logic Sept disinfectant still offers sufficient protection
against bacteria and viruses, including the coronavirus?
This
question can be answered in the affirmative. Logic Sept has been
successfully tested against various bacteria, multidrug resistant germs
(MRSA), fungi, enveloped viruses (covid-19), SARS, Herpes Simplex, bird flu (HSN1),swine flu (H1N1), HBV, HIV, HCV and many more.
Tested according to:
- DIN EN 14476
(Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Quantitative suspension test
for the evaluation of virucidal activity in the medical area - Test
method and requirements).
- DIN EN 1500 (Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Hygienic hand rub - Test method and requirements).
- DIN EN 1040
(Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Quantitative suspension test
for the evaluation of basic bactericidal activity of chemical
disinfectants and antiseptics).
After
Logic Sept disinfectant was produced with 30% alcohol, we wondered
whether it is even necessary to use alcohol for an effective
disinfection process.
Can you disinfect with 0% alcohol?
This
question can also be answered in the affirmative. We have developed a
disinfectant with 0% alcohol; Logic Sept Plus disinfectant.
The active ingredient of Logic Sept Plus
is non-alcoholic benzalkonium. The Logic Sept Plus disinfectant has
also been successfully tested against various bacteria and virus types,
including the coronavirus. Logic Sept Plus is safe to use for young and
old and therefore a great children disinfectant.
The beauty of the
Logic Sept and Logic Sept Plus disinfection is that both disinfectants
are extremely suitable for children and the elderly and people with
sensitive and dry skin or for people with allergic reaction on regular
disinfectants. In addition, these disinfectants offer a long-lasting
protection of two to three hours!
